The Coalition to End Domestic Violence consists of a diverse coalition of organizations that represent a broad range of interests and concerns — see listing HERE. These groups have co-signed the following Open Statement:
OPEN STATEMENT FROM LEADING ORGANIZATIONS
On behalf of the undersigned organizations and our millions of members from across the country, we write to express our concerns with the upcoming reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Our organizations comprise the Coalition to End Domestic Violence (CEDV), a network of concerned families, organizations, and community leaders committed to finding substantive policy solutions to stop domestic violence in the United States.
The goal of the Coalition to End Domestic Violence (CEDV) is to ensure that the VAWA is responsive to victims’ wishes, resources are actually making it to those who need it most, and given the current political environment, that the legislative drafting process is open and transparent to stakeholders and the public.
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) has been authorized through Fiscal Year 2018 and is currently under consideration for another five-year reauthorization.
Domestic violence is a serious problem that knows no gender, economic, geographic, or educational boundaries, so solutions to these serious problems should not be one-sided.
The committee must ensure the values of family preservation, limited government, and due process, will no longer be under assault with this legislation. As members of Congress, we expect you to be listening to community leaders, pastors, and concerned citizens, not just special interests, and allow our Coalition to have a seat at the table as full and frequent participants in the drafting process.
If your organization supports the CEDV objectives and wishes to become a member, send your organizational name, contact person, email address, telephone, and URL to: info-at-EndToDV.org.
