World Health Organization Repudiates and Ridicules the Meaning of ‘Gender Equality’

February 3, 2025 – Leaders of the World Health Organization were stunned when President Trump withdrew from the global body on January 20. Trump’s executive order chastised the WHO for its mishandling of the COVID epidemic, as well as its “inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence.” (1)

Although Trump’s order did not give specific examples of the “inappropriate political influence,” it certainly included the extreme politicization of gender health by feminist activists, both within and outside the organization.

By any measure, the health of men lags far behind that of women. Globally, men die five years younger than women, have suicide rates that are three times higher than women’s (2), and face 15 times the number of occupational deaths, compared to women (3).

But a search for WHO sex-specific publications and reports reveals a severe imbalance (4):

  • Women’s health: 36
  • Men’s health: Zero

Researcher James Nuzzo has documented a profound bias in the WHO reports, with “women’s health” cited 563 times and “men’s health” mentioned only 53 times (5). Likewise, the number of mentions in the WHO database of “women’s health” and similar terms outstrips mention of “men’s health” by a 15-fold margin (6).

The disparity in WHO’s attention to domestic violence against men reveals how the phrase “gender equality” has become an Orwellian cliché. Researchers have documented that domestic violence affects nearly equal numbers of men and women around the world (7).

But ignoring this fact, WHO conducted its high-profile “WHO Multi-country Study on Women’s Health and Domestic Violence against Women” (8). Oddly, the World Health Organization has never done a study of domestic violence against men. Indeed, the WHO flatly denies the existence of female-perpetrated abuse (9).

Revealing an apparent belief in the moral superiority of women, the WHO also issued a report titled, “Putting Women First: Ethical and Safety Recommendations for Research on Domestic Violence against Women” (10).  The first three words of the document’s title quickly dispels of any notions of gender equality at the World Health Organization.

To salvage its tattered reputation and regain its lost funding, the World Health Organization must begin to address the dire state of men’s health.

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 177 member organizations from 37 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and gender-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/coalitions/davia/
