The Embarrassing Fiasco That International Women’s Day Has Become

March 11, 2024 – A recent poll shows a majority of young people around the world think feminist policies have gone too far. According to the Ipsos survey, 52% of Gen Z and 53% of Millennials in 32 countries agree that “we have gone so far in promoting women’s equality that we are discriminating against men.” (1)

So what explains the rising global discontent with feminism? To answer that question, we need to look no further than the recent observance of International Woman’s Day, just held on March 8. This year, International Women’s Day was promoted intensively by UN Women (2) and other United Nations agencies.

A review of the UN social media messages reveals six major problems:

Marxist: International Women’s Day was established by socialists in 1911 as a tactic to protest capitalism (3). Marxist ideology views persons primarily as faceless units of economic production, which explains the reason for point number 2…
Irrelevant: Numerous surveys reveal that women have a broad range of life goals. One recent study reported, “An overwhelming 86% of respondents prioritized work-life balance, followed by children’s education, owning a dream home, health, fitness, and travel.” (4) But not a single UN tweet addressed any of these areas of interest.
Deceptive: International Women’s Day is the centerpiece of Women’s History Month. But not a single UN tweet educated readers about the particulars of women’s history, perhaps because the UN would prefer to keep the Marxist origins of the feminist movement a secret.
Money-Making: One of the major themes of the UN tweets was #InvestInWomen (5). This hashtag may seem to be laudable, until one realizes the extraordinary disparities in current spending levels between men and women. For example, UN Women has a budget of over $1 billion (6). In contrast, UN Men has a budget of $0…because UN Men doesn’t exist.
Hypocritical: The UN tweets made frequent reference to notions of “gender equality.” The word “equality” suggests a two-way street that benefits both parties. But a recent report titled #GenderEqualityForMen reveals men are lagging behind women in 12 major areas, such as education, health, homelessness, occupational deaths, and many others (7). These disparities point to the reality that men have become the new second sex. Based on recent program priorities (8), one must wonder whether the UN has any intention of rectifying the serious disadvantages that afflict men in the near future.
Unhinged: Without a doubt, the most bizarre tweet came from the hand of Volker Türk, the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights. He wrote, it’s time to end “centuries-old patriarchal structures & misogyny.” (9) In response, noted Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson commented, “The UN Human Rights Commissioner is 100% the worst of woke ideologues.” If “patriarchy” really exists, Volker Türk needs to explain, Why did the all-powerful patriarchs allow 76% of homeless persons to be men, or permit any of the other areas of male disadvantage to happen?

On its face, the UN social media campaign was designed to advance rosy notions of a feminist utopia. But ironically, the messages featured zero mention of how to have a good marriage, of motherhood, or how to have an overall happier life.

Given the six areas of concerns listed above, it’s difficult to avoid the conclusion that the real agenda behind the United Nations’ media crusade is to turn women into soulless wage earners and obedient political activists.
