Parental Alienation: BBC Decrees There is No Such Thing as ‘The Truth’

LONDON / September 20, 2023 – When a parent seeks to win over the affections of a child in order to exclude and punish the other parent, this is a form of domestic abuse known as “Parental Alienation.” PA is serious form of child psychological abuse that can cause long-term psychological and physical effects (1).

A petition signed by over 5,600 persons from around the world reveals the destructive effects of Parental Alienation (2):

  • Jonnie Jensen: “I am a single father who had to fight for four years just to share my children.”
  • Kellie Atkinson: “I was directly affected by PA and a victim to it. My daughter is now home with me after 3 long years of mental abuse that will affect us both forever.”

The research on Parental Alienation is so extensive that it can be considered to be “settled science:”

  1. Hundreds of peer-reviewed studies conducted in 32 countries around the world confirm the often devastating consequences of parental alienation (3).
  2. PA has been accepted by numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and the American Academy of Pediatrics (4).
  3. Parental Alienation is subsumed within the psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual: V995.51 (5).

But feminists view the concept of Parental Alienation as a threat to traditional prerogatives of maternal custody, so they set out to discredit it. “Truth is a patriarchal construct,” feminists will say. So rather than relying on logic, dialogue, and debate, feminists launched a disinformation campaign that aims to distort, obscure, and invert the truth.

Their campaign was dealt a blow in July when the UN Human Rights Council refused to approve the biased report, “Custody, Violence Against Women and Violence Against Children,” which described PA as a “pseudo-science.” (6).

So feminists turned to trusted ally BBC News, which has a long track-record of embracing the radical gender narrative (7). On September 4 the BBC published an article with the red-meat title, “Family Courts: Children Forced into Contact with Fathers Accused of Abuse.” (8) Needless to say, the one-sided essay did not cite any of the facts listed above.

The piece occasioned numerous complaints (9). The most impassioned came from therapist Karen Woodall who recounted, “Like a well worn script from a soap opera, the line-by-line repetition of the women’s rights narrative appears to have been accepted uncritically by BBC Special Reporter, Ed Thomas.” (10)

On September 14 BBC responded to the myriad complaints – but not by providing any substantive information (11).  Instead, the BBC editors selectively quoted from its standard on Due Impartiality: “We may produce content about any subject, at any point on the spectrum of debate, as long as there are good editorial reasons for doing so.”

Apparently the BBC editors didn’t think anyone would bother to look at the BBC source document (12), which states: “We must be inclusive, considering the broad perspective and ensuring that the existence of a range of views is appropriately reflected.” But the BBC Family Courts article flatly rejects any concept of being “inclusive,” “considering the broad perspective,” and “ensuring that the existence of a range of views is appropriately reflected.”

There is a growing recognition that the mainstream media no longer is guided by notions of “objectivity” and “truth.” Commentator Joel Kotkin explains, “Authoritarian regimes tend to see media and culture as critical in promoting their programme. Art, literature and journalism exist not to explore truth, but to define it along lines set by the ruling party.” (13)

The BBC editors need to make a decision: Pursue the truth and democratic ideals, or embrace gender propaganda and authoritarianism.
