In 5 Ways, Feminists Pose a Global Threat to Democracy

May 12, 2025 – Around the world, democracies are under siege. In many countries, persons are being arrested for “offensive” social media posts (1), political parties are being subjected to state surveillance for “extreme” views (2), and a two-tiered system of justice is taking hold (3).

Feminist activists are the reason for the roll-back on citizens’ fundamental rights, in at least five ways:

Political Tolerance: In a democracy, all citizens have the right to share their views with others, even if these ideas run counter to popular narratives. In many countries, a form of “political correctness” has taken hold, which discourages persons from expressing views such as the notion that men, not women, face a broad range of disadvantages and are in need of targeted programs (4).

Free and Fair Elections: Democracies assure that elections are open and fair. But UN Women has established a “Gender Quota Portal” that reveals dozens of countries now enforce rigid sex quotas. In 80 countries, quotas for political candidates have been established, and 18 countries have reserved a fixed number of legislative seats for females (5).

Equal Treatment Under the Law: Research confirms that women are equally likely as men to engage in domestic violence (6). But feminists ignore these hundreds of studies, insisting that only women are deserving of legal protection from domestic abuse (7).
Impartial Investigations: Objective investigations are essential for a reliable judicial decision. But feminists seek to compromise investigative impartiality, pushing for biased policies to “believe women” and “believe the victim.” (8)
Free Speech: Pew Research reports that 43% of men, compared to 38% of women, have faced online harassment (9). But feminists claim the exact opposite, that women are at greater risk of harassment, and push for so-called “hate speech” laws (10).

Canadian commentator Janice Fiamengo concludes that rather than working for true gender equality, feminists hold “a vision of social justice in which (so-called) oppressor groups such as white peoples will be brought to heel.” (11)

One of the most outspoken critics of feminism has been Argentinian president Javier Milei. Addressing the recent meeting of the World Economic Forum, Milei charged,

“We have even gotten to the point of normalizing the fact that in many supposedly civilized countries, if you kill a woman, it is called ‘femicide.’ And this carries more serious punishment than if you kill a man, simply based on the sex of the victim, legally making a woman’s life be worth more than that of a man.” (12)

Freedom House reports that over the past several years, democratic ideals have been in retreat around the world (13). Lawmakers who seek to protect democracy from the clutches of totalitarianism should shun feminist-inspired policies and programs.
