Gender Bigotry at the Highest Levels of the United Nations
November 26, 2025 – Last Friday, 303 students were kidnapped from St. Mary’s, a co-educational school in Nigeria. Media accounts revealed both boys and girls had been abducted: “Armed men reportedly attacked the Catholic school of St. Mary’s in Niger state, and abducted 303 pupils and 12 teachers, both males and females of varying ages,” reported MSN [emphasis added]. (1)
But this past Saturday, Amina Mohammed of the United Nations issued a tweet that stated, “Deeply alarmed by the mass abduction at St. Mary’s School in Niger State, Nigeria. Schools should be sanctuaries for education, not targets against girls.” [emphasis added] (2)
The UN official made no mention of the abducted boys.
Amina Mohammed is not a low-level functionary in the UN bureaucracy. Rather, she is the Deputy Secretary-General, reporting directly to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Sadly, the United Nations engages in gender bigotry on an ongoing basis. Yesterday, the United Nations observed the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. (3) Perversely, the UN has never recognized the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Men. (4)
Last week the UN World Health Organization released a report on Violence Against Women: Prevalence Estimates, 2023. (5) But inexplicably, the WHO has never issued a study on violence against men. This ignores the growing problem of female-perpetrated domestic violence:
- Researcher Alexandra Lysova released a study that found the rates of female-perpetrated unidirectional violence were nearly twice as high as male-perpetrated unidirectional violence — 31.4% and 16.9%, respectively. (6)
- Earlier this month, JAPAN Forward reported that Japanese men had filed 28,214 DV consultations, marking a 50% increase over five years. (7)
- This past Saturday, thousands of persons gathered in Madrid, Spain demanding that the government update its policies to protect male victims from female abusers. (8)
Earlier this month, The Nuzzo Letter issued a searing report on “UN Women’s Feminist Propaganda on X.” (9) The analysis concluded, “Overall, the findings show that UN Women regularly uses feminist propaganda on X. UN Women’s tweets are often inaccurate, biased, contradictory, unprofessional, overly emotional, and lacking in common decency and empathy for boys and men.”
Bringing the irony full circle, the United Nations sponsors a high-profile initiative designed to stop online disinformation. The UN claims that online disinformation is a “top global threat.” (10)
The United Nations clearly has some house-cleaning to do if it hopes to stop the disinformation and mend its reputation for gender bigotry in the domestic violence arena.
The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — unites 216 member organizations from 40 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
