Explosive Report Documents Widespread Anti-Male Discrimination by the United Nations

May 14, 2025 – A chilling new report reveals how many United Nations agencies have openly discriminated against men, thereby ignoring men’s fundamental human rights and turning them into virtual “non-persons.” (1) Following are highlights of the analysis:

World Health Organization: Globally, men are dying five years sooner than women (2). But a systematic analysis of WHO documents reveals a pervasive neglect of men’s health needs (3).

World Food Program: Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the UN World Food Program set up food distribution sites around the country. According to WFP director Josette Sheeran, “It is our methodology to distribute only to women to ensure that food gets to women and children in Haiti.” (4)

UNHCR: The UN Refugee Agency utilizes a classification system that gives priority to women and girls, thereby excluding males from receiving such protections (5).

UN Women: The UN Women agency stands out as the most egregious violator of men’s human rights. Following are a few of many examples:

  • Ebola: During the 2014 African Ebola outbreak, a report by the UN Women’s Gender Reference Group claimed without evidence, “Women and girls are particularly vulnerable in such an environment,” and called for a reduced focus on men for medical supplies, food, and economic assistance (6). But in fact, the Ebola mortality rate was nearly identical for men and women (7).
  • Journalists: UN Women seized upon the fact that 11% of journalists killed were women in their campaign, “Stop Targeting Women Journalists,“ thereby revealing an utter indifference to the 89% killed who are men (8).
  • Domestic Violence: Domestic violence is an equal opportunity problem, affecting equal numbers of men and women (9). But UN Women refuses to acknowledge the existence of female-perpetrated abuse (10).

Previous analyses of United Nations programs have reached similar conclusions of the systematic exclusion of men (11). For example, researcher Ellen Gorris reviewed the UN response to sexual violence against men in conflict settings. Her analysis concludes that men and boys have been “historically and structurally rendered an invisible group of victims.” (12)

Globally, men are lagging behind women in 12 major areas (13). The Universal Declaration of Human Rights upholds the principle of equal rights for men and women: “Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, [and] sex.” (14)

The United Nations’ pattern of discrimination against men is morally abhorrent and legally indefensible. The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance calls on UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to take prompt and decisive action.

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 189 member organizations from 39 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and gender-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/coalitions/davia/
