False Allegations: New Feminist Tactic to ‘Topple the Patriarchy’?

September 17, 2024 – International Falsely Accused Day was observed on September 9, with events held in 12 countries around the world (1). The highlight was an official statement by Victoria Villarruel, Vice President of Argentina.

Villarruel revealed how feminists are promoting the use of false allegations, thereby “breaking the principle of equality before the law, of innocence and defense; destroying the ties of thousands of families, and mainly many parents who can’t see their children.” (2)

Villarruel was certainly aware of the highly publicized allegations against Argentinian soccer coach Diego Guacci, accused of sexual harassment of five female soccer players. In response, Guacci denied all the accusations and provided a list of more than 100 potential witnesses to support his case. In the end, the FIFA Ethics Committee found the charges lacked merit, concluding that “the evidence on file is insufficient to corroborate, to its comfortable satisfaction, the players’ account of the events.” (3)

Indeed, false allegations have become a favored tactic of the feminist quest to “topple the patriarchy.” Teen Vogue columnist Emily Lindin openly announced, “If some innocent men’s reputations have to take a hit in the process of undoing the patriarchy, that is a price I am absolutely willing to pay.” Lindin also boasted, “I’m actually not at all concerned about innocent men losing their jobs over false sexual assault/harassment allegations.” (4)

The problem of false allegations emerged as a front-page issue in 2022 when actor Johhny Depp sued Amber Heard for defaming him with false accusations of domestic violence. The jury issued a unanimous verdict in Depp’s favor, with Heard paying him $1 million in damages (5).

False allegations can have devastating consequences. Numerous suicides of falsely accused men have been reported (6,7,8). Following the recent Presumption of Innocence conference in Australia, one woman shared this tragedy:

“My husband was a recipient of a FALSE allegation from a female student. After years and thousands of dollars to defend himself through multiple court cases to clear his name, he was left a shell of a man who no longer trusts anyone. He was forced out of education where he taught for 20 years.” (9)

Around the world, millions of persons have been falsely accused of abuse, according to an eight-country survey commissioned by DAVIA (10). Rosemary Kinuthia of the African Boychild Network in Kenya confirms that “False allegations are all over the world.”

To curb the epidemic of false allegations by vindictive women, lawmakers need to make these changes (11):

  1. Renounce the use of so-called “believe the victim” and “trauma-informed” investigations, which bias the probe and remove the presumption of innocence.
  2. Require hard evidence, not a mere accusation, as proof of abuse.
  3. Increase penalties for false accusers.

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 157 member organizations from 37 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and sex-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/coalitions/davia/
