Argentinian President Milei Derides Feminist Ideology as ‘Ridiculous’ and ‘Unnatural’

January 22, 2024 – Argentina’s new president, Javier Milei, delivered a blistering attack against radical feminism at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland last week. Milei charged that feminism has become a noxious force because it engenders conflict between men and women (1).

Milei began by recounting the effects of socialism as an economic, social, and cultural failure. As a result, “Socialists were forced to change their agenda. They left behind the class struggle based on the economic system, to replace it with other supposed social conflicts equally harmful to community life and economic growth.” (2)

Milei went on to explain how feminist ideology came to replace traditional socialist concepts:

“The first of these new battles was the ridiculous and unnatural fight between man and woman. This radical feminism agenda has led to increased state intervention, hindering the economic process. It provides jobs to bureaucrats who haven’t contributed anything to society, whether through women’s ministries or international organizations promoting this agenda,” Milei charged.

Allowing this process to continue will result in “more regulation, more socialism, more poverty, less freedom, and consequently, a worse quality of life,” he warned.

Milei is not the first head of state to question the claims of feminism.

In Italy, Giorgia Meloni, the nation’s first female prime minister, is seen as an anti-feminist (3).   Meloni opposes the feminist stances on gender quotas, abortion, and LGBTQ rights (4).

In South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol vowed to promote tougher penalties for those making false accusations of sexual misconduct (5). During his 2022 presidential campaign, he emphasized that structural discrimination against women does not exist in modern society; rather, that social differences between the sexes are a result of gender preferences (6).

Previously, former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher famously remarked, “The feminists hate me, don’t they? And I don’t blame them. For I hate feminism. It is poison.” (7)

Feminist biases are especially evident in the area of domestic violence. Research shows that females are as likely as men to abuse their partners (8). But feminist organizations uniformly white-wash the problem of female-perpetrated violence (9, 10, 11).

A 32-country survey found a majority of world citizens – 54% — believe that “when it comes to giving women equal rights to men, things have gone far enough in their country.” These views are especially strong among persons under 40 years of age, as well as in countries such as China, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, and Peru (12).

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 122 member organizations from 34 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and gender-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/coalitions/davia/
