Mass Murderer Lucy Letby Reveals Tragic Effects of Denying the Reality of Female Violence
August 29, 2023 – Nurse Lucy Letby was recently convicted of the murder of seven infants, as well as the attempted murder of six others. Last week, Letby was sentenced to life imprisonment for being the worst serial baby killer in British history. “That is a night that will be in my nightmares forever,” Dr. Ravi Jayaram later confided after he discovered Letby removing an premature infant’s breathing tube (1).
Part of the public outrage arose from the fact that hospital pediatricians had suspected her misconduct for two years. But when doctors shared their suspicions with hospital managers, the concerns were dismissed. Instead, the doctors were accused of “bullying,” and even forced to hand a written apology to the baby killer (2).
Feminist ideology holds that violence is motivated by men’s patriarchal need for power and control (3). Accordingly, feminists downplay and deny the extent and severity of female violence (4).
But studies conducted around the world paint a very different picture from the feminist claims:
- 72% of all infant murders are committed by their biological mothers (5).
- Women are as likely, or more likely than men to engage in domestic violence (6).
- Among same-sex couples, lesbian women are far more likely to engage in partner abuse than gay men or heterosexual couples (7).
As details of the gruesome murders emerged, feminists struggled to make sense of the tragedy. Psychologist Jessica Taylor admitted, “We cannot seek to frame women as equal to men, if we will not hold them responsible for their choices and actions in the same way as men. Not just in the workplace or the economy, but in their own choices, their abuse, their violence, their bullying, their crimes.” (8)
DAVIA urges lawmakers to refuse to allow feminist activists to play on their sympathies, and to assure that domestic violence programs address domestic violence committed by men and women alike.
The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 108 member organizations from 34 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and gender-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/coalitions/davia/
