Why Do Neo-Marxists Refuse to Celebrate Father’s Day?

June 18, 2024 – This past Sunday, millions of persons in dozens of countries celebrated Father’s Day to honor the sacrificial efforts of fathers. But remarkably, neo-Marxists refused to observe the event, and worse, are actively seeking to sideline fathers from the lives of their children.

Extensive research confirms the vital role that fathers play in the lives of their children:

  1. Unique and essential contributions: By means of play, role modeling, and verbal teaching, research confirms that fathers play a critical role “in preparing children to deal with life,” explains researcher William Jeynes (1). Fathers help children by encouraging them to take risks, challenging them, and setting appropriate limits (2).
  2. Improved child outcomes: As a result of these unique contributions, the children of involved fathers enjoy better grades, have fewer behavioral problems, are less likely to experience depression, exhibit higher levels of empathy, and more. Conversely, the effects of father absence on children have been found to be nothing less than “disastrous” (3).
  3. Less child abuse: According to the U.S. Administration for Children and Families, in 81% of child abuse cases, parents are the perpetrators. Among such cases, mothers are more than twice as likely as fathers to be the abuser: 38% versus 18%. (4) If the parents separate and custody is awarded to the mother, abuse rates skyrocket, according to a landmark British study (5):
    • 14-fold higher risk of experiencing serious child abuse
    • 7-fold higher risk of suffering fatal child abuse

Given these facts, one would expect policy-makers to do everything in their power to promote father involvement, especially in the event of divorce. But sadly, reality veers sharply from the ideal.

A review of physical custody arrangements in 37 countries in North America and Europe reveals joint custody continues to be the exception to the rule, with the great majority of child custody awards going to the mother. In Russia, Armenia, and Romania, fewer than 1% of divorce cases result in a 50/50 shared custody. The best country is Sweden, with 21% of children enjoying joint custody arrangements (6).

The reason for such inequitable outcomes is easy to discern. Driven by Marxist ideology that insists women are the habitual victims of “patriarchal oppression,” feminists are staunchly opposed to joint custody arrangements with the father (7).

To buttress their argument, feminists promote the Myth of the Abusive Male. One of the most aggressive purveyors of this falsehood is the UK-based SHERA Research Group:

  1. It is well known that women are equally likely as men to engage in partner abuse (8). But SHERA never mentions this pivotal fact.
  2. In the UK, the vast majority of court decisions award sole child custody to the mother, with only 6.6% of decisions resulting in a joint custody arrangement (6). But SHERA inexplicably claims on its website there exists a “tendency for the courts to side with men” (9). SHERA never attempts to explain how a 6.6% joint custody number reveals a “tendency for the courts to side with men.”

Around the world, hundreds of feminist organizations are disregarding the science and ignoring the critical need of children for their fathers. Instead, they are actively disseminating false information about domestic abuse, all with the objective of negatively stereotyping fathers.

Which is part of the reason why Argentinian president Javier Milei recently disbanded his country’s Ministry of Women, Genders, and Diversity (10).

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 146 member organizations from 36 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and sex-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/davia/
