United Nations’ Reem Alsalem Pushes the Child Abuse ‘Big Lie’

February 12, 2024 – Reem Alsalem of the UN Human Rights Council has been waging a global campaign to discredit a widespread form of child abuse known as “parental alienation.” PA is an especially pernicious form of child abuse because its damage is psychological, not physical.

One woman revealed how parental alienation had caused severe mental health problems (1):

“Dad was my best friend,” the woman recounts. But when she was 8 years old, her parents divorced.  “He just left us,” her mother deceptively told her. “The pain in my life over the last 20 years was, ‘My dad doesn’t love me…I must be so defective if my own parent can’t love what they’ve created.’”

Alsalem claimed that parental alienation was an “unscientific pseudo-concept.”(2)  But after an independent analysis concluded her report was filled with “misleading statements and blatant misinformation” (3),  the Human Rights Council refused to approve her thesis.

But Alsalem continued to pursue her single-minded campaign.

Last month Alsalem sponsored a webinar in Canada titled, “UN Special Report on Parental Alienation and Implications for Canada” (4). Not surprisingly, none of the panel members mentioned a recent analysis of 500 Canadian trial level cases that found against 25 abusive mothers, compared to only 10 abusive fathers (5).

The “Big Lie” refers to a gross distortion of the truth that is used as a propaganda tactic. The Big Lie was on full display on January 23 when Suzanne Zaccour, a self-described “feminist researcher,” claimed that victims of family violence are being “disbelieved, silenced, and punished based on the sexist and unscientific theory” of parental alienation (6).

Every word of her claim can be shown to be misleading or false:

  • “Disbelieved” – To the contrary, police officers are now trained to “believe the victim”
  • “Silenced” – Highly implausible, bordering on the hysterical.
  • “Punished” – Shouldn’t persons who intentionally slander and defame their ex-partner face legal consequences?
  • “Sexist” – Isn’t the feminist effort to stereotype dads as abusers a rather egregious form of sexism?
  • “Unscientific” – As just one example, the 682-page book, Parental Alienation ― Science and Law, details the scientific basis for the many legal decisions relating to parental alienation (7).

Responding to Zaccour’s claims, Christine Giancarlo, PhD of Mount Royal University in Canada issued a report titled, “The Real Crisis of Parental Alienation and the Ongoing Defensive Tactics of Disinformation by Self-Promoting Deniers” (8).  Giancarlo probes the claims of Reem Alsalem and other gender ideologues, revealing:

“Parental alienation is ubiquitous and deadly; its consequences are observed by teachers, professors, and mental health and legal experts on a daily basis….Parental alienators are child and former partner abusers; they engage in family violence and both fathers and mothers can be perpetrators, or victims.”

Giancarlo concludes her report with this fervent plea:

“On behalf of science, integrity, and the urgent necessity to eradicate the massive social crisis of parental alienation, I urge the retraction of published fraudulent ‘research,’ pseudo-scientific claims, media platforms that promote ignorance and damage, and false credentials by pretend experts.”

But undeterred by Giancarlo’s request, Reem Alsalem will be paying a visit to the United Kingdom beginning on February 12. (9)

Lawmakers, media representatives, and others need to call out the Big Lie that denies the existence of parental alienation, or accept the continuing march of totalitarian ideologies in their communities.
