‘Presumption of Innocence’ Event Reveals How Feminism Has Become a Global Threat to Democracy

September 10, 2024 – A historic conference on “Restoring the Presumption of Innocence,” held in Sydney, Australia on August 31, is enjoying widespread international acclaim. The conference featured presentations by legal experts, mental health advocates, and others who gathered to document the fact that “Equality before the law no longer exists in Australia. The presumption of innocence has been tossed aside.” (1)

A similar conclusion can be drawn regarding recent changes around the world that portend the rise of anti-democratic, totalitarian rule:

Presumption of Innocence: The conference keynote speaker, Vanessa Scammell, revealed how one-sided and “vicious” media accounts about her partner, actor Craig McLachlan, who allegedly harassed female actresses. After a grueling three-year legal battle, McLachlan was acquitted on all charges and the police ordered to reimburse his legal expenses (2).  For years, feminists have waged global campaigns to “Believe the Victim” and “Believe Women,” slogans that negate the presumption of innocence (3).

Free Speech: Recent events in Brazil and elsewhere reveal how freedom of speech has fallen under broad attack. In several countries, feminists are advancing so-called “hate speech” laws that would severely restrict free speech (4). In England, plans to criminalize “misogyny” and crack-downs on peaceful anti-immigration protests have triggered charges of the country becoming a “police state.” (5)

Mob Rule: Studies show that in Australia (6) and globally (7), men and women are equally likely to be perpetrators of domestic violence. But in recent months, thousands of Australian women have attended fevered protests that pushed a one-sided narrative of “violence against women.” Indeed, one of the confirmed conference speakers, Zalie Burrows, failed to show after being “bullied, intimidated, and threatened” by the “feminist mob” (8).

In response to conference organizer Bettina Arndt’s observation that “Australian men are getting screwed,” persons notched over 155,000 views of her online presentation. Many of these persons shared first-hand accounts of the chilling effects of so-called “kangaroo courts.” (9)

The momentous Presumption of Innocence conference came in the midst of a global mass movement to restore democratic ideals, a development that caught many lawmakers, government officials, and media representatives by surprise:

  1. Brazil: Just one week after the Sydney conference, tens of thousands of Brazilians flooded the streets to protest the country’s ban on Twitter (10). To date, 1.4 million persons have signed a petition calling for the impeachment of President Alexandre de Moraes “for the good of democracy.” (11)
  2. England: Newly elected Prime Minister Keir Starmer has come under fierce criticism because many believe he ”runs a two-tier society that shuts down dissent, and gives a free pass to people who are politically and ideologically aligned with Labour.” (12)
  3. United States: Referring to her as “Big Sister,” a recent article decried presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s “long war on free speech.” (13)

The antidote to totalitarian threats to freedom is straight-forward: Cut off the funding to groups that advocate for such policies. Last December Argentinian president Javier Milei did exactly that – he defunded and disbanded the national Women, Gender, and Diversity Ministry (14).
