‘Misogyny’? Feminists Are Telling the Opposite of the Truth
April 14, 2025 – Feminists have been claiming that a deep-seated contempt of women, often referred to as “misogyny,” is a growing problem around the world (1,2,3). But a review of social media platforms and global health policies points to the opposite conclusion: that the contempt of men — known as “misandry” — is far more widespread.
A search of social media hashtags that are demeaning to men or to women shows the following:
- #MenAreTrash vs. #WomenAreTrash: An estimate “might place #MenAreTrash in the range of hundreds of thousands to a few million engagements across all platforms since its inception.” In contrast, #WomenAreTrash “doesn’t seem to have coalesced into a unified, measurable ‘movement’ with consistent hashtag usage across platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or others.” (4)
- #KillAllMen vs. #KillAllWomen: The #KillAllMen hashtag registers “over 3 billion engagements across all social media platforms.” (5) In contrast, “There is no widely recognized or documented “#KillAllWomen” movement across social media platforms.” (6)
In other words, hashtags that demean men register up to 3 billion social media engagements. In contrast, hashtags that are derogatory to women are nearly non-existent.
Not surprisingly, the prevalence of anti-male hashtags has translated into discriminatory policies by international organizations such as the World Health Organization.
Globally, men die an average of five years earlier than women (7). Logically, the World Health Organization would devote at least equal attention to rectifying the disparities affecting men’s health. But a review of the WHO website tells a different story:
- Website depictions: World Health Day was recently observed on April 7. A review of the WHO webpage reveals images of five persons – all female (8).
- Reports: The WHO has published several reports and fact sheets specifically for women (9), but none for men.
- Domestic violence: Hundreds of studies show women are as likely to perpetrate domestic violence as men (10). In 2005 the WHO conducted a “Multi-country Study on Women’s Health and Domestic Violence against Women” (11). But the WHO has never carried out a survey of domestic violence against men.
Indeed, a search of other areas of gender disparity (12), reveals the difficulty of identifying a single area in which women are lagging behind men. So how are feminists able to make coherent claims that anti-female misogyny is a pressing problem?
In Australia, for example, widespread institutionalized bias against men has been documented in the country’s criminal courts (13), family courts (14), and law enforcement (15).
But a feminist-inspired report reached this remarkable conclusion: “Australian men hold some of the most misogynistic views in the Western world.” (16) The basis for this claim was its finding that “32% of Australian men agree that men have ‘lost out’ economically, politically, and socially ‘as a result of feminism.’ So criticism of widespread sex discrimination against men represents “misogyny”?
The illogic of assertions of misogyny is even more apparent in a recent article titled, “Misogyny on Rise in Music — And Female Pop Stars are Driving It.” The article makes the straight-faced claim that even a woman can be deemed to be guilty of the crime of misogyny if she includes risqué lyrics in her songs (17).
The cornerstone of good mental health is a firm grip on reality. But the feminist grasp on truth is tenuous, at best (18). No wonder that mental health problems among feminists have now reached epidemic proportions (19, 20).
