‘I am full of rage:’ NYC Meeting Reveals Why Feminism is a Form of Mental Illness

March 28, 2024 – Numerous reports have documented the epidemic of mental illness among young liberal women (1).  An article in Evie titled, “Young Liberal Women Are Statistically the Unhappiest and Most Mentally Ill Demographic,” blamed the problem on the fact that liberal women often view marriage and childbearing as “oppressive” (2). Indeed, mental illness among young feminist women is now believed to represent a global crisis (3).

But commentators have hesitated to probe how feminist ideology may be contributing to this mental health break-down.

Mental illness can be divided into two broad categories: Disorders of cognition in which the affected person loses touch with reality, and disorders of emotion such as depression and anxiety. A recent conference in New York City poignantly reveals how feminist ideology contributes to both forms of mental illness.

On March 19, feminist leaders from around the world gathered to attend a meeting on “Financing a Gender Justice Infrastructure to Counter Anti-Gender Ideology” (4).  The meeting consisted of six presentations that explored anti-feminist statements by Argentinian President Milei; efforts by El Salvador president Bukele to remove gender ideology from public schools; the need for collaboration between feminists and transsexuals; the anti-gender movement in West Africa; digital harassment and online abuse; and the specter of decreased funding for feminist programs (5).

Normally, an event that addresses such controversial topics would invite questions and debate. But the feminist gathering did not permit any discussion of the many controversies that have enveloped the Gender Ideology issue.

Instead, participants were expected to accept the many dubious claims without question, such as (5):

  1. “Milei’s stance is seen as reflective of deeply ingrained patriarchal attitudes that seek to maintain traditional power structures.” In fact, this one-sided statement ignores how current attitudes maintain the feminist status quo that downplays the many areas in which men are lagging behind women (6).
  2. “Feminists recognize the intersecting oppressions faced by transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and emphasize the need for inclusive activism.” This tone-deaf assertion ignored the fact that just one week before, the UK National Health Service announced it would no longer prescribe puberty blockers for children (7).
  3. “Digital harassment and online abuse disproportionately target women and gender minorities.” This claim is provably false. Among adults under 30 years of age, 43% of men and 38% of women have experienced online harassment, according to the Pew Research Center (8).

So recalling the propaganda tactics seen in the former Soviet Union, the feminist event became a de facto indoctrination session (9). Such methods serve to twist persons’ perception of reality and compromise their mental health.

Even more bizarre was the event’s overt use of emotional manipulation tactics. Throughout the two-hour session, the presenters and others repeatedly stated, “I am full of rage” and “I’m raging.” Over and over they uttered these exact words, as if they had been instructed to play on the women’s emotions and fears.

So the effect of the session was not to educate and inform, but rather to radicalize and infuriate.

Canadian commentator Janice Fiamengo has asked, “If many feminist thinkers were mentally ill, or at least incapable of refraining from self-righteousness, victim posturing, and fact-free accusation, what does that say about the feminism they created?” (10)

The conclusion is clear: Women need to summon up the courage to call out the feminist evil, or risk falling prey to its Marxist madness.
