Domestic Violence, Istanbul Convention, and the ‘Whiff of Fascism’
February 28, 2023 – A recent report about the suppression of open debate at the United Nations reveals how “powerful groups within the UN system” have blocked organizations from participating in meetings of the upcoming Commission on the Status of Women in New York City. Stefan Gennarini warns, “there is a real danger of totalitarian tendencies.” (1)
The Center for Family and Human Rights concludes with this warning: “There is usually a whiff of fascism among the feminist NGOs.”
Similar criticisms have been leveled against the Istanbul Convention, which is rooted in Marxist conceptions of “equality” and social conflict. “According to many adherents to Marxism, conflict is inscribed in the very nature of historical phenomena, and determines the development of social life,” explains critic Sean Parker (2).
Everything about the treaty, and its implementation over the past 10 years has followed the Marxist model:
- Hundreds of scientific studies confirm that men and women engage in domestic violence at similar rates (3). But the Istanbul Convention acquiesces to radical gender ideology and declines to recognize the female half of the domestic violence equation.
- Due process has been reduced to a legal after-thought. Professor Stephen Baskerville notes, “The only possible reason for this Convention is to enable interest groups to make unjust accusations against innocent people and to strip the accused of the ability to protect themselves.” (4)
- Article 4 of the Istanbul Convention states, “Special measures that are necessary to prevent and protect women from gender-based violence shall not be considered discrimination under the terms of this Convention.” This recalls the Article issued during the German Weimar Republic, allowing for the imposition of emergency decrees without parliamentary approval.
- Public debate about the proposed treaty has been stifled. Commentator David Walsh reveals, “In neither Ireland or England, was it put before citizens; no experts teased out its implications, no legal minds were asked to predict its consequences into the future or whether its provisions would be for good or ill. Consequently, very few people are aware of its ramifications.” (5)
The subordination of science to ideology. The curtailment of due process rights. The Orwellian expansion of state power. The elimination of open debate. (6)
These are the age-old hallmarks of tyranny; under whatever guise it may appear.
The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 73 member organizations from 28 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and sex-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/davia/
