Australia Witnesses Impressive Gender Equality Advances for Men

July 14, 2026 – Research consistently shows men and women are equally likely to engage in domestic violence (1). The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance (DAVIA) was established in 2021 to promote domestic violence and abuse policies that are science-based, family-friendly, and gender inclusive. Currently, 235 organizations around the world have joined DAVIA, including 12 groups in Australia.

One group, Celebrating Masculinity, has summarized recent progress across the continent:

“If the first quarter of 2026 demonstrated that support for men and boys was moving into the political mainstream, the second quarter showed something equally important: the movement is beginning to build lasting institutions. Governments are creating dedicated portfolios, legislatures are establishing new inquiries, researchers are producing landmark publications, and educational leaders are coordinating efforts on a scale not previously seen.” (2)

Bettina Arndt, #MenToo

Malcolm Roberts’ party, One Nation, looks like it will be a major player in our next Federal election. The party, led by Pauline Hanson, is very keen to reform the Family Court and expose the role of false allegations in destroying men’s lives. We are providing research and support to help One Nation promote these issues in parliament.

One of our success stories last year involved preparing questions for one of our Senators, Malcolm Roberts, to grill bureaucrats in a parliamentary committee about why our peak government family research body distorted researching, ignoring male victims of violence. Here’s the video which has had 100K views (3).

Stand Again

Four stand-outs for Stand Again are:

Stand Again has been recognised publicly by Federal MP Dan Repacholi, the Special Envoy for Men’s Health, on several occasion.
We made a formal submission to the Australian Government’s Second Action Plan consultation under the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children (4).
We’ve been accepted to present two poster displays at the 2026 STOP Domestic Violence Conference in Canberra in November, showcasing the CCSAT-M, a self-assessment tool for male victims of coercive control, and the service gap analysis from our submission (5).
We released two books (6):
1. The first book is targeted to clinicians detailing the tactics of coercive control against men, typical patterns of abuse, and how abusive relationships against men are formed.
2. The second book targets family and friends of men who are entrenched within an abusive relationship, to support those family members with reaching out effectively to that male victim.

3. One in Three Campaign

One of our staff members was recently interviewed on ABC Radio Sunshine Coast, alongside “Joe” (a male DV survivor) and Priscila Thorpe (a DV service coordinator) (7).

The Nuzzo Letter

Over the past two years, The Nuzzo Letter (Substack) grew from 280 to 1,580 subscribers. Over the past year, The Nuzzo Letter’s associated X account (@JamesLNuzzo) gained over 4,500 new followers, had 12.5M views on posts, and passed all thresholds for monetization (8).

A recent article in the Nuzzo Letter highlighted the problem of widespread misandry at UN Women, citing the example of a recent Twitter post that promoted discriminatory treatment of male victims of the recent earthquakes in Venezuela (9).

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance is confident that progress will continue in assuring fairness in the treatment of male victims of domestic violence, and of men overall.
