2023: The Year That Women Spoke Out on Gender Equality for Men

December 26, 2023 – One of the highlights of 2023 was the growing number of women across the globe who began to call for fundamental fairness for men and boys. These women reject the archaic notion that “gender equality” applies only to females. They called for fairness for males on a broad range of issues:

Australia: Sen. Pauline Hanson recently spoke out to condemn the vilification of men, concluding that “Public lynching of men has become our national sport.” (1)

Denmark: Danish Minister for Equality Marie Bjerre announced, “The time has come to ensure that abused men and their children receive the same help as when a woman reaches out for help. Equality is for both women and men.” (2)

United Kingdom: Women have been among the strongest proponents to establish a Minister for Men:

  • MP Katherine Fletcher was one of the first persons to call for a Minister for Men (3).
  • Columnist Rachel Moore referred to the Minister for Men proposal as “a great idea” (4).
  • Writer Jemima Lewis acknowledged that “British men are in crisis” (5).

United States: State representative Mary Dye introduced a bill to create a Commission on Boys and Men in Washington State (6). Earlier this month the Women’s Healing and Empowerment Network endorsed the establishment of the commission (7).

Many organizations that belong to the Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance are headed by women. These are a few examples:

  • Australia — Bettina Arndt, Mothers of Sons: “It’s very telling that the new coercive control laws have been kept on ice in these states for years as authorities try to ensure the right people – namely men – get charged.” (8)
  • England — Lyn Crabtree, International Falsely Accused Day (9): “On a daily basis I continue to highlight the mass destruction of men and women’s lives by False Allegations on Twitter and through various correspondence to those in power. I continue to fight for Innocents until change is made.”
  • India – Nandini Bhattacharjee, All Bengal Men’s Forum: “A man’s dignity is no less than a woman’s dignity. Misandry is as bad as misogyny.” (10)
  • Philippines — Zenly Diansuy, MenCourage Philippines: “Serving as a Coordinator for DAVIA, I actively engage with the challenges faced by men, boys, and fathers. Through strategic content and coordination efforts, I aim to address and amplify conversations surrounding the unique experiences within the realms of masculinity, adolescence, and fatherhood.”
  • Spain — Almudena Miranda, ANAVID (11): “How is it possible that judges across Spain are being trained in the sex-biased ‘gender perspective,’ which directly violates the Spanish Constitution?”

The International Council for Men and Boys is working to end the sex disparities that affect men and boys around the world. www.menandboys.net
