Desperate Feminists Resort to DV Scare Tactics

August 1, 2024 – In an attempt to restore their sagging political influence, feminists are promoting lurid tales of female victimization at the hands of their male partners. But hundreds of studies conducted around the world show men are equally likely as women to be victimized by domestic violence (DV). (1)

In the United Kingdom, for example, 4.3% of white men and 4.2% of white women report they had been assaulted by an intimate partner (2). According to the Office of National Statistics, 31.8% of male abuse victims, compared to only 22.7% of female victims, suffer a physical injury from the incident (3).

Indeed, recent UK newspaper headlines feature gruesome accounts about female perpetrators of domestic violence:

  • Kerri Hutcheson admitted that she fatally stabbed her lover Graeme Hutcheson in the heart during a row (4).
  • Sarah Rigby taunted and physically abused her boyfriend, Gareth Jones. In response, Jones appeared in a video designed to raise awareness about male victims of abuse (5).
  • Matilda Sutherland-Young of Enfield Town punched and strangled her boyfriend Roderick Webster in a fit of rage (6).

Feminists are distressed by these reports – probably not because of an overriding concern for the welfare of abused men. Rather, the feminist distress likely arises from the fact that they are losing control of the abuse narrative.

Feminist ideology is grounded in the belief that women are oppressed by the “patriarchy,” and domestic violence against women serves as a poignant reminder of that belief. In the words of feminist icon Gloria Steinem, “patriarchy requires violence, or the subliminal threat of violence, in order to maintain itself.” (7)

But rather than adopting their approach to account for the science, feminists have created an elaborate series of policies and procedures designed to safeguard their abuse narrative:

  1. Orwellian-Sounding Titles: In 2021 the UK government unveiled its one-sided “Violence Against Women and Girls” strategy (8). But no strategy to protect abused men. This in a country that celebrates quaint notions of democracy and equal treatment under the law.
  2. “Believe the Victim:” Police often are instructed to “believe the victim” (9), an adage that eliminates the presumption of innocence and eviscerates the right of the accused to an impartial investigation.
  3. Media Chivalry: On July 25, the Mirror reported on an abusive woman who doused her ex’s brother’s van in gasoline and set it afire. In an apparent attempt to play on readers’ sense of chivalry, the Mirror began its headline by highlighting that the woman was a “Mum-of-eight…” (10)

Neo-Marxist movements constantly seek to expand their influence and power. So last month, the National Police Chiefs’ Council issued a Statement on Violence Against Women and Girls (11). No surprise, the report omits all mention of the scientific studies and criminal cases cited above. Repeating the word “threat” 69 times, the piece is designed to frighten women, stampede lawmakers into action, and eventually enrich the budgets of police departments.

Ironically, there is no evidence that the ideologically-driven approaches presented in the UK’s VAWG strategy actually reduce domestic violence. In 2017 the European Union launched an ambitious 27-country Spotlight program to curtail domestic violence. Six years and 500-million euros later, the EU Auditors delivered this sobering verdict: “There is no evidence of violence against women and girls having decreased in the various countries covered by the Spotlight Initiative” (12).

So who will have the foresight and courage to call out the feminist mendacity?

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 152 member organizations from 37 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America. DAVIA seeks to ensure that domestic violence and abuse polices are science-based, family-affirming, and sex-inclusive. https://endtodv.org/davia/
