World Leaders Should Declare Feminism an Extremist Movement

October 21, 2024 – Lawmakers in several countries have issued proposals in recent months to curb extremist movements. Extremism is defined as the “promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred, or intolerance” that aims to “negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.” (1)

The UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights enumerates of series of core freedoms (2). These freedoms include:

  1. Right to non-discrimination.
  2. Right to security of person.
  3. Right to freedom of expression.

Unfortunately, the global feminist movement is working to undermine all three of these freedoms:

Right to Non-Discrimination: Despite claims to be in favor of “gender equality,” the feminist movement is working to establish or maintain certain rights only for women (3).  Following marital dissolution, for example, fathers in most countries face discriminatory practices in child custody decisions (4). But feminists consistently oppose proposals for equal shared parenting.

Right to Security of Person: Around the world, men and women experience nearly identical rates of domestic violence (5). But feminists adamantly oppose equal treatment for men and women in such cases (6).

Right to Freedom of Expression: Free speech is a hallmark of democratic societies. But in many countries, feminists are working to establish policies designed to curb free speech (7). Gender activists defend such policies by claiming only women experience online harassment – an assertion that is disputed by a Pew Research Center survey that found 43% of young men, compared to 38% of young women, have experienced online harassment (8).

The feminist movement has engaged in extremist acts of political violence, as well.

The very beginning of the feminist crusade was marked by numerous acts of terrorism, including the bombing of churches and homes, attempted political assassinations, and more (9). Such terroristic actions continue to the present time with feminist-inspired attacks on Catholic churches throughout Latin America (10).

The problem of gender extremism has expanded in recent years, as feminists are now waging a campaign to classify “misogyny” as a form of terrorism (11). But they define misogyny so broadly as to include views that are known to be factual and truthful.

For example, feminists insist that misogyny includes a belief held by many men that “women going through custody disputes make up or exaggerate claims of domestic violence” (11). But in reality, first-hand accounts (12) and an eight-country survey (13) confirm the widespread problem of false allegations during custody disputes.

Lawmakers around the world now face a stark decision: Preserve the fundamental democratic rights of equal treatment under the law and freedom of speech. Or acquiesce to feminist demands to implement totalitarian rule.

The Domestic Abuse and Violence International Alliance – DAVIA — consists of 165 member organizations from 38 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
