Wave of Female-Perpetrated Domestic Homicides Alarm the Nation, Shatter Abuse Stereotypes
WASHINGTON / December 6, 2021 – The United Nations recently launched a global campaign titled, “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!” (1). Ironically, the UN campaign ignores the hundreds of studies that show domestic violence affects men and women equally, and comes at a time when Americans are becoming aware of the problem of domestic violence committed by female perpetrators.
Following are five recent examples of these grisly homicides:
- October 9: Jamie Faith was gunned down as he was walking his dogs in suburban of Dallas, Texas. The shooting was orchestrated by his estranged wife, Jennifer. She is now charged with the commission of murder-for-hire. The Department of Justice labeled the crime as “depraved and calculated.” (2)
- October 13: Yvonne Wu of New York City, caught in a love triangle, opened fire on her 23-year-old ex-girlfriend and killed the ex-girlfriend’s 24-year-old new lover, Jamie Liang. Wu has been charged with murder in Brooklyn Criminal Court (3).
- October 14: Claudia Resendiz-Flores of Rolling Meadows, Illinois shot James Jones in the chest. Resendiz-Flores reportedly had asked the man to kiss her, and shot him after he refused her repeated requests. The woman has been charged with first-degree murder (4).
- November 14: Donald Eason of Baltimore, Maryland was run over by a car and died from his injuries six days later. Police ruled the incident a domestic incident. The female assailant is still at large (5).
- November 25: Mary Rosborough of Chester, South Carolina shot and killed her 6-year-old son with a hunting rifle. She justified the incident by remarking she wanted to send him to heaven. The woman was booked on counts of murder/non-negligent manslaughter and possession of a weapon during a violent crime (6).
Hundreds of studies conducted both in the United States and internationally show women are as likely as men to perpetrate physical domestic violence (7). Studies of psychological aggression reveal that men represent a majority of victims of nagging incidents. In the United States, for example, 17.3 million men and 12.7 million women each year are victims of coercive control by their partners, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (8).
Unfortunately, the United Nations campaign ignores these well-documented facts. The UN’s description of the drive makes frequent reference to “violence against women and girls,” but does not include any mention of “violence against men and boys.” (9)
The CEDV report, Thirty Years of Domestic Violence Half-Truths, Falsehoods, and Lies, documents how activists have misrepresented the research to promote stereotypes of men as abusers and women as victims (10).
